Even when you have been using a certain brand for a few years it is always nice to find our new things about it. I have been a fan of Ren Skincare products pretty much since its launch in 2000 but I didn’t know that it was started by two guys, friends from University, with a marketing background. Or that the brand started out of necessity in a way, when the wife of one of the founders developed reactivity to skincare during pregnancy. Now Ren Skincare is sold in 60 countries and continues to march in step with the time.
Ren Skincare works on the three ‘P’ principle: Performance, Purity and Pleasure and that is certainly what the products deliver. You have a vast choice, depending on your skin type and the result that you want to achieve, as you can mix and match ranges to create unique skincare combinations for yourself. Ren professes that ‘skincare is art’ and it is hard to disagree as one’s face can be easily viewed as canvas. The brand was one of the first UK brands to bring out Moroccan Rose Range, that has since become a best-seller, to the UK and last year the team decided to change its design, aiming to bring in a bit more distinction to the provenance of its star ingredients which is gathered in Morocco only once a year by women, so rose petals don’t get bruised. It is also used in my favourite Ren’s sub-range, Vita Mineral ( Ren’s ‘bread & butter’ ) and Rose extract is also featured in Ren’s latest launch Rosa Centifolia Hot Cloth Cleanser.
The cleanser is a wonderfully luxurious treat for your skin at this time of the year and will pamper your skin, as well as the senses with its delicate rose smell and nourishing texture. You should use it as a two-phase cleanser that will purify, decongest and gently remove your make-up, including waterproof mascara. Apply a pump of the cleanser to your face and massage it in, contouring your face, then drench the cotton cloth with hot water, apply it to your face as a compress for a few seconds and then cleanse it off. My skin felt re-energised and glowing after it and felt soft to the touch. Don’t forget to splash your face with cold water to close the pores down and then apply your night face serum, moisturiser or face oil. As the cleanser contains vitamin P ( derived from Rosa Centifolia ), it will also help to keep veins and capillaries from leaking into the tissues-you see that often around the nose or under your eyes. Triglycerides from cocoa seed butter will help improve skin’s barrier function, while Rosa Damascena will help with stress relief – and you should try to remember that too much stress is bad for your skin long-term.

2014 also sees the launch of V-Cense range, which includes Flash Rinse 1 Minute Facial, Revitalising Night Cream & Youth Vitality Day Cream and targets the first signs of ageing by nourishing, hydrating, smoothing first lines & wrinkles and boosting radiance by combating signs of fatigue.
V-Cense Youth Vitality Day Cream is replacing Vita-Mineral Radiant Day Cream and promises to energise, smooth & protect your skin during the day from the environmental aggressors. Boswellia Carterli ( from Frankincense oil ) and Boswellic Acid ( derived from Boswellia Serrata Bark ) will relax micro-contractions within your facial tissues thus smoothing your expression lines, Vitamin C ( from Calabrian Oranges ) will stimulate collagen production and improve the radiance of your skin, Vitamin F ( from Rose Hip Seed Oil ) will boost skin’s lipid content and protect skin cell membranes, helping skin to maintain normal moisture levels. There are also plant stem cells from Orange Fruit which were chosen for their ability to increase synthesis of extracellular matrix elements and soften the appearance of lines and wrinkles and Tocotrienols from Arctic Cranberry Seed Oil which are essential for free-radical protection, as well as UV protection, thus helping ‘mop up free radical damage which can affect our DNA structure’. The cream comes in a shorter, more compact pump but contains the same amount of cream as before, making it more convenient in terms of packing when travelling.

Another new launch from Ren is V-Cense Revitalising Night Cream, which will replace Frankincense Revitalising Night Cream ( one of the first products to be launched by Ren in 2000 ). Frankincense has long been known for its relaxing properties ( did you know that it is often burnt in churches as an incense ) and this night cream aims to relax micro-contractions within your facial muscles, leading to smoother lines and contours on your face ( it can also be used on your neck, an area which we often neglect ). You also have Vitamins C, E ( from wheatgerm oil that helps to protect your skin from oxidative damage and fights free-radicals ) and A ( from B-carotene, which stimulates cell renewal and helps to strengthen skin’s protective barrier ). Our skin regenerates at night, so this cream will help revitalise, nourish and smooth your skin with its active complex of ingredients, while relaxing your breathing. As I have used Ren’s original Frankincense night cream I was curious to find out why it was changed but have to agree that in order to be modern you sometimes have to ‘tweak’ the much-loved products in order for them to continue to be effective.

A third product in the V-Cence range is called Flash Rinse 1 minute Facial and those members of the Ren team who have tried it already, are raving about it, bashfully admitting to using it sometimes daily because of the result that you see in the mirror but do remember that it’s effect after just one use can last up to 72 hours. Vitamin C is a powerful ingredient that helps our immunity, brightens our skin and assists the process of collagen production among other things. However Vitamin C is highly unstable and passes through our body very quickly, so Ren’s bio-chemists experimented long and hard before they managed to create this product where Vitamin C is water activated by you.
This green gel-rinse will revitalize and rejuvenate your skin and will remove oxidized, darkened sebum ( bye-bye blackheads ) and dead skin cells leaving behind a clearer, brighter, more even complexion-a great pre-party treat or natural skin’s boost I was told on good authority!
Based on 30 women tester panel, luminosity was increased by 23,7% after one week and wrinkle depth was reduced by 14,4% ( source: Ren Press Release ). The gel itself contains Boswellic Acid from Boswellia Serrata Bark ( responsible for relaxing the muscles, fighting fatigue and diminishing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles ), stabilized 10% Vitamin C ( from Ascorbic Acid ) in a silica/glycerin matrix that avoids oxidation/activation before you apply the water to it and Magnesium which will help energise and boost skin’s radiance levels.
Squeeze the gel out and apply to your face, massaging it in ( you will feel gentle granules buffing your skin ), then add a little bit of warm water to your face to activate the formula and leave it on your face for one minute, before rinsing it off thoroughly. I tried the sample of this product ( production has been slightly delayed due to the imperfection with the packaging ) and have to say that the result is instant-you truly see an improvement in radiance straight away. I would recommend applying your usual face serum or moisturiser after it but personally prefer to use a lighter formula after using this product.
